PHILIPPINES:Dec.19 – A US Marine accused of killing a transgender Filipino appeared in a Philippines court for the first time on Friday, Reuters said.
Lawyers for Pfc Joseph Scott Pemberton sought the suspension of the trial.
Attorneys for relatives of Jennifer Laude say they will seek Pemberton’s detention in a local jail during the trial, AP reported.
However, the US Embassy has already rejected a request by the Philippines government to take custody of Pemberton.
The Marine was brought from the camp to Olongapo early Friday under heavy guard.
