Two Army captains got a big surprise this weekend when a presidential golf game completely upended their wedding.

According to Bloomberg, Army Captains Natalie Heimel and Edward Mallue Jr. were set for their wedding in Hawaii when they decided to invite President Barack Obama as a gag.

The couple knew that the president was vacationing near the location of their wedding, and weren’t surprised when they received a form-letter decline from President Obama.

Hours after receiving the letter, the couple got a call from staffers at the Marine Corps Base Hawaii that their wedding would need to be moved to accommodate the president’s security detail for a game of golf.

“It was kind of ironic they got the letter from them and then, within hours, they were told they had to be moved due to him,” a family member told Bloomberg.

“It was emotional, especially for her—she’s the bride and in less than 24 hours they had to change everything they had planned.”

Despite the snafu, the couple was pleased with the spot they were relocated to, and even received a phone call from the president apologizing for the mix up.

“He apologized and congratulated them,” Captain Mallue’s sister said.

“Made their day.”

  1. This fool just has a terrific way to show his appreciation for the military doesn’t he? Perhaps he doesn’t get, the press is turning on him and a negative photo-op would be avoided by the sane people in the world, of course he would not be among them. Glad to see your firing on all pistons again Ms. Lorra. J.C.
