The slaughter of Christians at the hands of the Islamic State just reached a pinnacle today as a video has emerged which purportedly shows the militant group beheading 21 kidnapped Egyptian Christians in Libya.
The Christian men dressed in the signature orange jumpsuits, which have become synonymous with impending death, are seen kneeling on a beach before being forced down and beheaded. NBC News reported that an earlier caption in the original video indicated the location of the slaughter was “Wilayat Tarabulus by the Mediterranean Sea,” which means it could have been filmed near Tripoli.
Libia has seen in influx in Egyptian men who have fled their country in search of employment, despite their government urging them not to go to a region in the midst of massive crisis.
In the video which first surfaced on a Twitter newsfeed of an ISIS-supporting website, each Egyptian captive is seen paired with a masked ISIS terrorist clenching a knife. Following a brief, but haunting, statement by a militant leader, each Christian man is beheaded.
The recorded mass beheading is said to be “A Message signed with blood to the nation of the cross” and was released by the group’s Al-Hayat Media Center, according to a global security firm associated with NBC News, Flashpoint Intelligence. Another caption on the five-minute video read: “The people of the cross, followers of the hostile Egyptian church,”RT reported.
