TWO SEALS DIED WHILE TRAINING IN SWIMMING POOL

Comment by Jim Campbell, Citizen Journalist, Oath Keeper and Patriot.: “With the determination of those who absolutely refuse to quit it is amazing that more SEAL trainees don’t die in their attempt to become members of the Navy SEAL group of special warriors.

The training is incredibly intense, drown proofing is just one of the many tests each candidate must pass.

Each candidate goes through numerous freezing cold ocean swims at night and during the day as part of their program.  Is there any wonder that 90% of the candidates, ring the bell and quit?

A Navy SEAL from Queens and another from Michigan died after a training accident in a swimming pool at a base in Virginia.

Special Warfare Operator 1st Class Seth Cody Lewis of Queens and Special Warfare Operator 1st Class Brett Allen Marihugh, of Livonia were found unresponsive Friday at the bottom of the Combat Swimming Training Facility at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story.

Lewis, 32, died Friday and Marihugh, 34, died Sunday, officials said.

Just thinking out loud here, but in a swimming pool this is not supposed to happen and those who were responsible for watching them are likely no longer involved with training.”

Lt. David Lloyd told the Associated Press that both sailors were members of Naval Special Warfare Group 2.Lewis was taking part in physical fitness training in the pool.

“Seth was a consummate professional, fierce warrior, and teammate and friend to many of us in the Naval Special Warfare community who had perseverance and determination, making him an outstanding SEAL,” said Capt. Pete Vasely, commander of Naval Special Warfare Group 2, The POST reported.

Lewis joined the Navy in 2006 after serving as a US Marine from 2001 to 2005.

After completing Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL training in Coronado, Calif., in 2007, he was transferred to the base in Virginia.

Lewis was deployed several times to Afghanistan and Iraq in support of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.

He earned the Bronze Star with Combat Valor, the Purple Heart, the US Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal with Valor, the US Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal with Valor, and other campaign and service medals.

Lewis is survived by his wife, Kristy.
