Actually, it might work for the good, in that this couple will realize they’re not considered the undebatable ‘source of truth’ – DOUBT has been planted and people won’t just eat what they say as Gospel Truth! Even that statement would bug them – indicating there’s a High Power than theirs!
When there’s a tinge of truth to start the flame the rest of the possibilities can be tossed in and watch it take off! Esp. when we now some ‘sinister is in our midst’!
